Arthur Andersen recognizes five innovative companies for best business practices

August 25, 2004—Five companies from around the world have been recognized for outstanding business practices in the third annual Enterprise Awards for Best Business Practices(SM) sponsored by Arthur Andersen’s Enterprise Group. These companies have excelled in developing and implementing best practices in the following four areas—customer satisfaction, motivating and retaining employees, building strategic alliances and going international.

Selected by an independent judging panel of respected business, civic and academic leaders, the five award recipients were recognized at the recent Enterprise Symposium(SM) sponsored by Arthur Andersen’s Enterprise Group.

Hundreds of business leaders from fast-growing companies, industry experts and nationally renowned speakers gathered for two days of knowledge sharing at the Center for Professional Education, Arthur Andersen’s worldwide training facility in St. Charles, Ill.

The five award recipients for the 1997 Enterprise Awards, selected for their demonstrated excellence by category, are:

  • Enterprise Award: Customer Satisfaction—Service Performance Corporation Service Performance Corporation of San Jose, Calif., is a building maintenance firm that provides daily janitorial and facilities services to office buildings, malls, airports, laboratories and manufacturing companies covering approximately 15 million square feet.
  • Enterprise Award: Motivating and Retaining Employees—Gensler Gensler is an international firm based in San Francisco that provides a broad range of design and planning services, including architectural design, interior architectural design, program management, building design consultation and facility management.
  • Enterprise Award: Building Strategic Alliances—Garvan Institute of Medical Research The Garvan Institute of Medical Research, a biomedical research organization based in Sydney, Australia, was recognized for its strategic alliance with Eli Lilly and Company, a major international pharmaceutical company. Garvan, a non-profit organization, addresses many significant diseases of modern society including cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes and mental health disorders. Garvan’s primary “product” is leading edge medical research, distributed primarily through academic journals.
  • Enterprise Award: Going International—Stevedoring Services of America With more than 100 years of experience, Stevedoring Services of America (SSA), Seattle, serves the West Coast, Gulf Region and Atlantic Coast with its marine terminal and rail yard operations. SSA handles every type of cargo and serves every major ocean carrier.
  • Enterprise Award: Going International—Willett Systems Limited Willett Systems Limited of Corby, England, is a family-owned, privately held company that designs and manufactures mid- and high-technology equipment for variable information printing. Founded in 1983, Willett products, including product labelers and ink jet coders, are now used in 100 countries. Sales have grown at a 30 percent compounded rate since the company’s inception.

All of the award recipients completed a questionnaire, participated in on-site interviews and progressed through several levels of judging and review.
