January 23, 2009—Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) recently announced its Lone Star campus in Austin, Texas, has achieved a gold certification under the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Based on current certified projects, this is the largest gold-certified LEED commercial building in Texas.
The LEED system recognizes performance in six key areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, indoor environmental quality, and innovative design.
The Lone Star campus, which is home to AMD’s business operations and the Austin design engineering center, was designed and constructed by a diverse team of internationally recognized architects, engineers, ecologists, and sustainability experts. The site development plan for the 58-acre, 870,000-sq.ft. campus was based on three key tenets: limit site impact, protect water quality, and use innovative sustainable design.
AMD reportedly has a long history of environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility. Among other awards, AMD was recognized in 2008 as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Companies in the World by Innovest Strategic Advisors.
