January 4, 2006—Haworth Inc. has announced that its newest chair, Zody, is the first chair endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). According to Haworth, Zody is the only chair endorsed by the APTA, and no other office chair is going through the endorsement process.

The APTA endorsement was awarded after a review by physical therapist members of the association’s board of directors and staff. Review criteria include benefit to the user, product efficacy, and cost-effectiveness. APTA product endorsements are statements to its membership and the general public that a product is worthy of consideration. Additional information on APTA is available through its Web site.

Zody’s ergonomic features include the introduction of PAL, a back support system with passive pelvic support, plus, according to Haworth, a “revolutionary asymmetrical lumbar support system” that allows the user to increase support to either side of the lower back independently, depending on preference.

In addition to the APTA endorsement, Zody has earned Silver Best of NeoCon ’05, a Gold Product Award at NeoCon Canada IIDEX ’05, Gold Cradle to Cradle Product Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry ’05, and a 2005 Good Design Award. Zody is also Greenguard certified and has 16 patent-pending innovations, says Haworth.
