March 1, 2004—KI continues to demonstrate how its Genius Architectural Wall dominates the product category with a 48 Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating and approval by ICC Evaluation Service, Inc. ICC Evaluation Service is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation that conducts technical evaluations of building products, components, methods, and materials.
The STC rating jumped four points to 48 after the Genius product was tested with the following:
- A flush ceiling channel versus a recessed ceiling channel;
- Flush panel connectors versus recessed connectors;
- A U-channel at the end of the run versus a wall post.
“It is an exponential difference,” said Rob Wittl, KIs wall product manager.
“Our Genius wall provides more effective acoustical privacy than standard drywall or comparable wall products, which typically range from 34 to 40 STC.”
In addition, the Genius Architectural Wall product now complies with the 1997 Uniform Building Code and the 2000 International Building Code as determined by ICC Evaluation Service. This approval is often necessary for specification of a wall product in a seismic area.
“Not only do we have solid panels approved, but no competing manufacturer has single-glazed and double-glazed glass panels approved by ICC,” Wittl said.
More than 70 percent of the materials used during pre-manufacturing are recycled; it is 93 to 99 percent recyclable post-consumer, 100 percent reusable, and meets GREENGUARD testing requirements for indoor air quality standards.
