New guide explains UK FM outsourcing contract

November 11, 2002—Guidance notes have been published by law firm CMS Cameron McKenna and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIoB) to accompany the second edition of the Standard Form of Facilities Management Contract. The FM contract, published by the CIoB, is widely respected as the benchmark contract for the industry.

The guidance notes feature several changes, including new provisions relating to team working, plant maintenance, and the developments of TUPE. The guidance notes and second edition of the contract, priced 15 and 17.50 respectively, are available from CIoB’s Construction Books Direct (click on “New Releases,” then on “Facilities Management Contract Guidance Notes”), or by contacting Sally Marsh at 01-344 630810.

The Workplacelaw Network’s Guide to Facilities Management Contracts (2nd Edition, 49.50, ISBN 1900648199) includes a review of the standard forms of FM contracts available. The guide is designed for anyone involved in the outsourcing process, from individual cleaning, IT, or security operations to Total Facilities Management contracts. It is available from customer services at 0870 777 0202, or from the e-shop on Workplacelaw Network under “Publications.”
