September 19, 2001—Philadelphia-based PECO Energy said it would relocate its emergency telephone services from its Center City headquarters and bolster its workforce in the field to heighten safety awareness and ensure continued customer service in the aftermath of the national security crisis.
PECO said it would maintain its System Operation and a skeletal Customer Service Call Center staff in its 2301 Market Street headquarters. Otherwise, non-essential personnel are being released in cooperation with local authorities.
As a precaution, PECO activated its Emergency Response Center in Plymouth Meeting, Montgomery County, to monitor and coordinate overall utility operations today and ensure a heightened employee awareness for safety. PECO will postpone planned field work so it can expeditiously respond to any service interruptions that may occur.
PECO Energy, an Exelon Company, delivers electricity to 1.5 million customers and natural gas to 430,000 customers in southeastern Pennsylvania. For more information, contact Michael Wood of PECO, 215/841-5555.
