Singapore-Beijing partnership to develop green building standard for China

April 8, 2011—The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore and Beijing Construction Decoration Association (BCDA) signed the Green Building Collaboration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) March 28 to explore collaboration in various initiatives on green building interiors. Guests included members of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and leading industry stakeholders and government officials of China.

These initiatives include a Green Building Interior Standard for Beijing interior design and construction industry, possibly the first of its kind in China. Other initiatives include green building training by BCA for Beijing interior constructors and consultants, as well as opportunities for business collaboration between Singapore and the Beijing building industry in China.

As part of its key initiatives under China’s 12th five-year plan, BCDA is committed to achieving substantial progress with the leadership support of the Chinese government and the joint participation of industry enterprises.

BCDA identified four main thrusts aimed at building a “green” Beijing city: strengthening the energy conservation measures in housing and urban and rural construction; developing energy-efficient and green buildings; promoting the robust development of a low-carbon eco-city; and advocating a new low-carbon economy.
