Asbestos Removal Contractors Association issues new guidance

November 16, 2007—ARCA, The Asbestos Removal Contractors Association, committed to promoting best practice in terms of safe working procedures and the highest standards of workmanship from its membership, has published “Guidance note for Asbestos Removal in Confined Spaces.”

The guidance note has been provided to give guidance to both clients and contractors on the procedures of working safely in confined spaces and to provide adequate practical guidance for those undertaking asbestos removal.

When meeting the revised asbestos regulations issued by the UK’s Health and Safety Executive, the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, work in confined spaces may introduce additional problems, says the association.

This means identifying the hazards present, assessing the risks and determining what precautions to take. The ARCA guidance note gives practical help in assessing and eliminating or managing the risks.
