AXCESS new RFID automatically locates personnel

March 1, 2006—AXCESS International, Inc., a leading provider of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, has introduced its automatic personal location accountability solution. The RFID application, based on the ActiveTab platform, provides automatic personnel location accountability as required in multiple industries.

The AXCESS RFID solution uses long-range personnel cards that are the exact size and form factor of standard access control cards. The cards have an embedded battery and electronics to automatically track, in a hands-free mode or without human intervention, personnel as they move throughout a facility. When worn by personnel the RFID cards can be activated on-demand at doors or at virtual entrances to areas and provide their exact location and direction, says the company.

The system includes security authorization levels that can be changed dynamically, by time of day, for example. Card data is reported over the standard enterprise network to the OnlineSupervisor enterprise database and software system.

Card data is compared with business rules and, if a location violation is found, initiates wireless alerts that are sent to security personnel. The system also has a visual location presentation on the facility floor plan. Optionally, live video can be integrated with each tag event for more rapid and accurate response. It can also integrate recorded video clips linked to each incident. The automated system includes a full reporting package to support compliance with stringent government and enterprise reporting requirements.

AXCESS’s patented ActiveTag RFID systems use small, battery-powered tags that when automatically activated, transmit a wireless message typically 30 to 100 feet to hidden palm-size receivers. The receivers are connected via standard network simultaneously to the enterprise system software, the existing security alarm equipment, and standalone management software. Optionally, the tag system can be used to trigger security video recording and live remote video transmission.
