BOMA introduces training in ways to save energy

March 17, 2006—BOMA International is launching a training initiative on April 7, 2006, to help the commercial real estate industry counter rising energy costs and reduce energy consumption.

The BOMA Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP), developed by the BOMA Foundation in partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR Program, is supported in part by a grant from EPA. The program provides no- and low-cost strategies for reducing the industry’s annual $24 million energy bill by as much as 30%, while continuing to provide tenants and owners with comfortable space.

Through improved energy performance and operational control, the commercial real estate industry has the ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve natural resources with the added benefits of improved property value, better indoor air quality and tenant comfort, and reduced energy costs.

BEEP courses are available nationwide via phone conference, supported by materials delivered over the Internet in real time. Courses run for two hours. Registration fees are $50 per course per site, allowing one or more individuals to participate from the same location. For curriculum details, schedules, registration information and other resources, visit the BOMA Web site.

Founded in 1907, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International is an international federation of more than 90 local associations and affiliated organizations.
