Case Systems converting entire product line to WOODSTALK engineered board

September 26, 2003—Case Systems Inc., a manufacturer of plastic-laminate furniture and casework for schools, laboratories and other institutions, announced today the conversion of its entire production line to use WOODSTALK engineered board, manufactured by Dow BioProducts Ltd., from waste wheat straw fiber, to create an environmentally responsible “green” product line.

WOODSTALK engineered board was selected partly because of its impact on indoor air quality. It is manufactured using a formaldehyde-free resin to bind the wheat-straw fiber together. Prior to the conversion, Case Systems, like its competitors, mainly used wood-based particleboard, most of which employs resins containing formaldehyde, which emits in low levels along with other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

About two-thirds of Case Systems’ engineered board order will be pre- finished with thermal-fused melamine on a WOODSTALK Gold core, and the balance will be unfinished WOODSTALK Gold engineered board, which Case Systems will laminate.

BuildingGreen Inc., publisher of Environmental Building News monthly, selected WOODSTALK fiberboard for a Top 10 new “green” building product award in its 2002 GreenSpec Directory, recognizing its formaldehyde-free, low- emissions composition and use of annually renewable agrifiber.
