October 1, 2003—Wind energy marketer Community Energy, (CEI) announced the roll out of “Catch the Wind”—a comprehensive campaign to mobilize New England electric consumers in developing new, community-based wind projects that deliver clean, renewable energy to the regional electric grid.
CEI’s NewWind Energy products are now widely available to commercial, industrial and institutional customers throughout New England, allowing customers to support new wind projects in the Northeast U.S.
CEI’s “Catch the Wind” campaign also includes significant purchases by larger organizations that are leading the way for the development of new wind projects in New England, including CEI’s three megawatt wind power project under development in Princeton, Massachusetts. CEI recently announced a long-term power purchase agreement with its project partner, Princeton Municipal Light Department as well as renewable energy certificate purchases by several New England organizations.
Early leaders supporting CEI’s Princeton project include:
- Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, Massachusetts—recently purchased 300 megawatt-hours of wind energy from the CEI Princeton project.
- Yale University School of Forestry and Environment Studies, New Haven, Connecticut—10% of its recent renewable energy purchase will come from the CEI Princeton project.
CEI’s “Catch the Wind” campaign also includes partnerships with non-profit organizations like Maine Green Power Connection through which electric customers large and small can choose CEI’s NewWind Energy from a number of renewable energy options.
CEI has pioneered the sale of wind energy certificates to businesses, universities, municipalities, and aggregation groups and has successfully cultivated retail demand for wind energy in these regions.
