April 12, 2004—Constellation NewEnergy has been awarded a three-year electricity supply contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in New York City. Under the terms of the agreement, Constellation NewEnergy will supply power to facilities where the GSA is responsible for electricity procurement.
The agreement calls for Constellation NewEnergy to provide more than 50 megawatts of power to many well-known public buildings, including the United Nations, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration and Red Cross, throughout the five boroughs of New York City and Westchester County. Roughly 25 percent of the electricity supplied by Constellation NewEnergy will be from renewable energy sources such as wind and biomass generating facilities.
“New York’s successful retail access program enables customers like the GSA to buy power in a way that is consistent with their energy goals,” said Deirdre Lord, vice president of Constellation NewEnergy. “For the GSA, buying electricity from renewable sources was an important part of its procurement strategy.
