Cypress and Philips solution enables codeless lighting design with high-performance LEDs

August 27, 2007—Cypress Semiconductor Corp. and Philips Lumileds have joined to make it simpler for lighting designers and facilities users to design custom-color lighting systems. They say that using Philips’ Luxeon K2 power LED and Cypress’s PSoC Express 3.0 visual design software, users can simply input the selected Luxeon K2 device, select bin specifications through easy-to-use, drop-down menus, and choose a color without having to write a single line of microcontroller code.

There is no longer a need to be experts in LED binning and temperature specifications. Instead, users can focus on desired lighting effects, say the companies.

Cypress has integrated the Luxeon K2 device specifications and temperature characteristics into the content library of PSoC Express 3.0 embedded visual design software. PSoC Express 3.0 supports Cypress’s new EZ-Color high-brightness (HB) LED controllers. With other LED controllers, engineers must input specific device binning and temperature performance data in order to ensure accurate color over the life of the design.

Philips Lumileds Lighting Company pioneered power LED technology and is the world’s leading provider of power LEDs for everyday lighting applications. Cypress delivers high-performance, mixed-signal, programmable solutions that provide customers with rapid time-to-market and exceptional system value.
