DOE awards more than $2 million for commercial energy-efficient technologies

April 10, 2002—The US Department of Energy (DOE) recently selected six new research and development projects that will reduce energy consumption, enhance economic competitiveness, and reduce environmental impacts in five of the nine most energy-intensive industries in the United States (glass, agriculture, metal casting, aluminum, mining, chemicals, petroleum, forest products, and steel).

The winning projects were selected by DOE’s Industries of the Future BestPractices Program. The projects will receive a combined total of more than $2 million in federal funds, while private-sector partners will add more than $9 million over the one-year to three-year life of the cost-shared projects. All funding levels are currently under negotiation.
