July 19, 2006—As a follow-up to the US Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) recently issued notice (.pdf file) on how commercial building owners or leaseholders can qualify for a federal tax deduction by making their buildings more energy efficient, the Department of Energy (DOE) has recommended further resources.
For more information on tax incentives for energy-efficient buildings, DOE recommends EnergyTaxIncentives.org, a project of the Tax Incentives Assistance Project, as well as the Web site of the Commercial Building Tax Deduction Coalition.
In addition, the National Lighting Bureau (NLB) has created a brochure about how the tax incentives encourage high-efficiency indoor lighting.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 – New Tax Incentives Make High-Benefit Lighting Less Expensive Than Ever Before is available from NLB’s Publications page.
