September 21, 2005—Dow Corning Corp., a global leader in silicon-based technology, has introduced InstantGlaze II, which allows easy application and installation of glass for small commercial and residential window and door manufacturers, according to Dow, and increases productivity up to 33 percent over tape glazing.
Dow Corning explains that InstantGlaze II is a lower-viscosity, softer material that squeezes down during application to increase contact surface with the window while offering the same strength, reduced hold time, and increased efficiency of InstantGlaze I.
The softer texture of InstantGlaze II also increases elasticity and elastic recovery performance, which have passed tests to meet the newly instituted Dade County, Florida, hurricane standards. Dade County maintains the most stringent hurricane building codes in the US. InstantGlaze I is used in the commercial and residential sales markets. InstantGlaze II is used solely in the light construction and residential markets.
