March 13, 2002—Emco Limited, one of Canada’s leading manufacturers and distributors of building products, has announced that its subsidiary, Emco Building Products Ltd., has formed a strategic alliance with Johns Manville of Denver, Colo., the largest US manufacturer of products for the commercial roofing markets. Under the terms of the alliance, Johns Manville and Emco Building Products will jointly oversee the manufacture of membranes for the industrial/commercial market, as well as eave protectors for the residential market at Johns Manville’s facility in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Emco will be entitled to a portion of the production capacity of the operation, and has agreed to make an initial investment to upgrade and add further capacity to the plant.
The alliance also provides for a private label manufacturing arrangement whereby Emco will supply glass ply asphalt felt to Johns Manville to be sold under its brand. Both manufacturers will work together to obtain necessary approvals for a wide range of modified, glass ply and built-up-roofing systems.
