Glossy book from AIA celebrates architecture’s past, looks to the future

April 11, 2008—The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has released a collection of essays, vignettes and profiles from 70 of most the influential architects, journalists and scholars from around the world. The glossy book, Architecture: Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future, offers a candid look at the profession’s past 150 years, and provides in-depth analysis about the role of the AIA architect in creating the vibrant, sustainable communities of the future.

In addition to narrative from contributors such as renowned architects Thom Mayne, FAIA, and Robert A.M. Stern, FAIA, scholar James Steele and journalist Paul Goldberger, Hon. AIA, the book contains 560 photographs that depict some of the greatest architectural collaborations and contributions of our time, says AIA.

The book covers a variety of subjects including: Architecture Education, Architecture as Art, Creating Community in the Midst of Diversity and Innovation in Office Design.

Architecture: Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future is published by Visual Reference Publications and will be available for purchase online at the AIA bookstore.
