Integrated systems by Johnson Controls and Simplex achieve UL-listing for smoke control

October 16, 2000 — Fire alarm systems from Simplex and Metasys building automation systems from Johnson Controls, Inc. are now Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed for integrated smoke control applications. The combined solution, according to the two companies, can help make buildings safer by offering an approved way to initiate processes in an HVAC automation system based on alarms received from the fire alarm system.

Building operators at a Metasys workstation can now instantly review changes-of-state, alarms, systems status, and graphical displays of alarm status from the Simplex fire alarm system. If a fire occurs, the building automation system can automatically respond with HVAC control actions that help fight the spread of fire and smoke.

Johnson Controls and Simplex recently formed a global alliance to bring best in class integrated building systems to customers using Simplex fire detection and alarm systems and the Johnson Controls Metasys building automation system that controls heating, ventilating, air conditioning, security and access control systems.
