June 23, 2008—J&J / Invision says it has become the first commercial carpet manufacturer to introduce ecoScorecard—an Internet-based tool that enables architects, designers and end-users to search, evaluate and document products based on varied environmental parameters.
The tool has been introduced as architects and designers are experiencing a growing need for this type of information as projects with sustainability priorities become more prevalent, notes the company.
EcoScorecard is a powerful, easy-to-use tool with a built-in algorithm to provide a comprehensive accounting of how a specific product contributes to selected sustainability criteria. It provides an objective evaluation based on a wide array of accepted protocols such as GGHC, Labs21, NSF-140 and LEED. Without it, designers and architects are often left relying on e-mail exchanges, faxes or phone tag with sales associates to find, document and evaluate the pertinent information.
EcoScorecard is available online.
The company also introduced a modular, PVC-free backing called eKo. This backing, (pronounced “echo”), is made of 10% post-consumer recycled content as well as post-industrial materials. Designed to provide closed-loop recyclability, eKo is 35% lighter than PVC tiles and more flexible for easier installation, says the company. eKo is also CRI Green Label Plus certified and carries lifetime delamination, tuft bind and moisture barrier warranties.
With a green priority in mind, J&J / Invision has taken numerous measures to ensure maximum sustainability. The creation of eKo is just one component of the companys initiative, EnAct, an organization-wide focus on reducing, recycling, reusing and creating a healthier, more sustainable environment. The goal of EnAct is to reduce the environmental impact of the company’s facilities by reducing waste of raw materials, energy and water in every department of the business.
