April 28, 2004—Lees Carpets was honored with four awards for product innovation and sustainability during the 2003 Antron Design Award ceremony held recently in Beverly Hills, California. Celebrating unique interior design projects and pioneering floorcoverings, the annual Antron Design Awards competition recognizes professional architects, interior designers, and carpet manufacturers in the US and Canada.
Design Connect recognized with Gold Product Innovation Award The competition’s jury of professional architects and interior designers honored Lees Carpets’ Design Connect with a Gold Product Innovation Award in the modular category for its subtle pattern and versatility. As part of Lees’ Abaca Collection, especially well suited for corporate and retail environments, Design Connect is available in a blend of 14 colorways inspired by plant materials and textures. Tip-shearing creates depth and tonality, while the use of repeating layers in the pattern produces an overall visually stimulating effect. Design Connect is constructed of Antron Legacy nylon for resiliency, color flexibility, and performance.
School installation earns Sustainable Flooring Performance Award Faculty and maintenance staff for the Northside Independent School District agree that Lees’ Faculty II product, installed in San Antonio’s Passmore Elementary School in 1972, looks as good as it did more than 30 years ago. Winning a merit award for Sustainable Flooring Performance, the heathered, multi-level loop pattern helps to mask soiling and staining throughout the school, including classrooms, corridors, the library, and administrative areas.
Design excellence in Japan and Chicago garner Healthcare and Retail Merit Awards Perkins Eastman of New York, New York, selected custom styles of Lees’ ModaVation line in the winning healthcare merit project, Sun City Takatsuki/Half Century More Co., Ltd., the first multi-level care facility in Japan. Using traditional Japanese crafts and antique kimono fabrics as inspiration, Lees’ ModaVation program allowed designers to create four custom carpet styles constructed of Antron Legacy nylon, resulting in an upscale approach to senior living.
Tasked with combining the Chicago showrooms of Allsteel and The Gunlocke Company, The Environments Group of Chicago, Illinois, used contrasting scale, lighting, color, and materials to maintain distinct identities in the shared space, thus earning the retail merit award. Lees’ Design Connect modular carpet and Color Bridge broadloom carpet, both from the company’s Abaca Collection, were specified to reinforce the different brand identities, while simultaneously connecting the shared rooms with subtle patterns and varying tonal shades.
