Lees’ new Unibond carpet-backing system contains 20-percent recycled materials

February 19, 2003—Lees Carpets has released the next generation of its popular Unibond backing system: Unibond RE. The system now incorporates 20-percent post-consumer, recycled content.

Currently featured on Lees’ Modern and Geologic Collections of broadloom carpet, Unibond RE incorporates a renewable bio-based resource that has reduced the company’s dependence on raw materials from petrochemical products by nearly 40 million pounds since 1999. Unibond RE eliminates the need for toxic seam welds or seam sealers, yet provides a bond that is three times stronger than conventional latex-backed carpets. This backing system requires no water, and uses less than half the energy needed to produce conventional latex systems. In addition, Lees’ Unibond RE features a full lifetime warranty, (covering backing delamination, wear, and edge ravel), and provides a moisture barrier that is totally synthetic and does not support mold growth.
