September 12, 2007—The MediaStation Electrical Lateral Filing (ELF) Systems from MegaStar Systems is now available with a secure log-on feature that offers added security and accountability for facility file storage applications, says the company.
This security feature requires that a user enter a unique identification before access is granted to the system. The company further explains that virtually all forms of identification can be used, including an individual password, bar code, or magnetic strip.
Users can be restricted as to which shelves and carriers they may access based on manager authorization. Additionally, a user log can track which users are accessing which shelf levels. The ELF has lockable bi-parting doors, and shelves can be equipped with lockable cabinets for highly restricted access, notes MegaStar.
The MegaStar MediaStation ELF system consists of a series of vertically arranged rotating carriers controlled by an electronic keypad. By using overhead space, the MediaStation can hold the same number of files as traditional five-drawer filing cabinets or lateral files in 50 to 60 percent less space. It provides more than 2,700 linear file inches of letter-sized filing space, equivalent to approximately 27 file cabinets.
The ergonomic design and operation of the MegaStar MediaStation ELF system is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and OSHA regulations, as well as the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) for forward and side reach, clearance under the work counter, and control accessibility guidelines.
MegaStar Systems, a company of the Kardex AG Remstar International (KRI) Group of Zurich, Switzerland, is a major provider of automated storage and retrieval systems.
