MGE UPS unveils Web-Pac software for secure remote power control

December 13, 2002—MGE UPS Systems has introduced its new UPS Web-Pac software that used in conjunction with MGE’s new XML-Web cards or XML-@gent, provides secure management of network-attached UPS systems from anywhere on the network.

MGE’s new Web-Pac management software is reportedly the first to offer Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security that enables safe remote monitoring and control.

Using a standard Web browser, remote users have a graphical view of real-time UPS operating characteristics, monitoring up to 250 servers. Administrators also can use their browser to receive power alarms and set up automatic actions. During extended power outages, Web-Pac can securely launch an automatic shutdown of PCs and servers in a heterogeneous environment, assuring a safe and orderly shutdown of systems. An automatic re-boot of systems can also be scheduled upon power restoration.

UPS Web-Pac comprises agent and client modules for easy administration. The agent acts as a connection module between the UPS and the network. The client is a software module residing on a UPS-protected server administering local shutdown and monitoring functions. Because the connection modules use Java technology, the XML clients can adapt to all operating systems, including Java Virtual Machine (JVM), making Web-Pac one of the most open power management solution on the market today, says MGE UPS.

UPS Web-Pac compliments MGE’s power management software offerings for PCs, LANs/WANs and enterprise-wide networks. The new software will initially support Windows 2000/NT/XP, Sun Solaris, HP-UX and Linux Red Hat with support for additional operating systems soon to follow. UPS Web-Pac can be downloaded free of charge from MGE. MGE’s XML Web-Card is available as an accessory and lists for $364. For more information contact MGE UPS as well as their ad on FMLink.
