NeoCon’07: Haworth ‘s Brazo LED task light tops 420 entries in Best of NeoCon competition

June 13, 2007—Brazo, designed by Pablo Pardo for Haworth, was named Best of Competition and earned the Gold Lighting award in the Best of NeoCon competition. Brazo has fully adjustable, calibrated light control and a precision quality machined recyclable aluminum body.

The slim-styled Brazo has an LED light source that requires little maintenance. It was introduced during NeoCon the World’s Trade Fair at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.

With a slender and multi-adjustable arm, Brazo positions light in a linear fashion across any work surface. The light’s recyclable aluminum surfaces elegantly conceal luminous and energy-efficient LEDs. This functional design is also evident in the wave pattern element that acts as a heat sync to eliminate LED heat, explains Haworth. The light also features 360-degree head rotation with 90-degree head adjustability, a height adjustment range from 14 to 21 inches, and tangle free wire rotation.

Brazo features 18 high-powdered LED lights with full dim control via its dimmer knob at the back end of the arm. It is the first task light to offer focus control; the simple rotation of the glass tube dial located at the front of the shade allows the user to both direct and choose any desired light spread. This makes Brazo ideal for use above computer monitors since the light source can be pointed at the work surface without producing light spill on the monitor surface.

Brazo’s use of high-powered, high-quality LED (developed within the last two years, says Haworth) provides sustainability and design advantages. LEDs use 15 percent of the energy required for a standard light bulb and are 50 percent more efficient than a compact fluorescent. Because of this efficiency and very low heat output, Brazo’s LED life span is up to 50,000 hours with little maintenance based on use of 8 hours a day. The use of LEDs also provides the potential for future design upgrades, including color modulation, cool to warm control, and seamless integration capacity.
