New NIOSH site focuses on flood precautions, cleanup

September 28, 2005—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has added a Safety and Health Topic page to its Web site to assist those involved in cleanup operations along the Gulf Coast from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Hurricane Response: Storm and Flood Cleanup spotlights precautions for working safely during storm and flood cleanup, and resources for assessing and addressing potential cleanup risks. Preventing injury, illness, and death from electrical hazards, carbon monoxide, and heat stress are among the issues highlighted.
