New thermostat from bioMETRX keeps unauthorized fingers from changing temperature

December 11, 2006—bioMETRX has developed the smartSTAT Thermostat to address the problem of unauthorized changes in temperature settings by tenants, restaurant employees and patrons, and store employees. The “finger-activated” technology allows small business owners complete control over who can change temperature settings. The product allows an owner or manager to enroll up to 20 authorized users who can then change temperature settings.

Fully programmable and Energy Star compliant, smartSTAT Thermostat will be available to businesses in April 2007 and is expected to be on shelves of major retailers by May 31, 2007. The suggested retail price is $229.00.

The smartSTAT Thermostat is the first biometrics-based product designed to save businesses money on energy costs, says the company.

Not without a sense of humor, the company has established the smartSTAT Thermostat Hall of Shame at its Web site. This area allows you to look at existing thermostats installed at restaurants, airports, doctor’s offices, apartment houses, and shopping malls to see just how vulnerable a thermostat is to tampering by unauthorized individuals. You can even submit your own pictures with a chance to win a smartSTAT Thermostat.
