OSHA offers information for Hurricane Katrina cleanup and recovery workers

September 7, 2005—In response to Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast and the subsequent massive recovery operations, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is offering a special information page on its Web site that provides important information and resources to ensure worker safety during these operations.

Keeping Workers Safe During Clean Up and Recovery Operations Following Hurricanes addresses such hazards as electrical work, fall protection, safe operation of chain saws, and working around downed electrical wires.

OSHA is also broadcasting public service announcements in English and Spanish, and is offering the full resources of the agency to help protect the safety and health of workers responding to the disaster.
