The Swiss engineering conglomerate Sulzer will sell five divisions so that it can focus on its technology business. The five businesses—Sulzer Infra, Sulzer Pumps, Sulzer Textil, Sulzer Turbo, and Sulzer Burckhard—account for 14,600 of its 21,170 workforce and SFr33.6bn of the group’s SFr5.5bn revenues. The restructured Sulzer will focus on medical devices and surface and materials technology, areas that require strong technical expertise with the potential to build innovative brands. The company is looking for at least a 15% operating margin and will pursue rapid growth through acquisition.
