PowerLight installs world’s largest solar/wind hybrid system on Hawaiian ranch

PowerLight Corporation, a designer, manufacturer and installer of grid-connected commercial solar electric systems, recently installed a 225-kilowatt solar-wind hybrid energy system at the 225,000-acre Parker cattle ranch in Hawaii. The system is the world’s largest solar-wind energy power project.

Incorporating photovoltaic and wind technologies, this hybrid installation leverages renewable energy sources round the clock to generate most of the power required for Parker Ranch’s water pumping operations. The two-acre system is expected to cut the ranch’s utility bill substantially, though no estimates have been released as to how much.

According to PowerLight, this system will produce enough clean power over the course of its life to avoid the use of 30,000 barrels of imported oil.
