October 1, 2007—Rackable Systems, a provider of servers and storage products for large-scale data centers, has unveiled ICE Cube, the company’s new modular data center environment. Designed to augment or replace traditional data centers of any size, ICE Cube features computing density levels of up to 11,200 processing cores or up to 4.1 Petabytes of storage in a standard 40′ x 8′ ISO shipping container. ICE Cube enables IT administrators to quickly and easily deploy a cost-effective and high-performance data center environment in virtually any location.
Based on Rackable Systems’ award-winning Concentro modular data center design, this newest generation of the Integrated Concentro Environment (ICE) features nearly 20% greater density levels, a broader choice of container sizes and configurability of Rackable Systems’ Eco-Logical servers and storage, and more rapid production times. Customized and built-to-order, ICE Cube can be deployed with Rackable Systems’ broad range of space-saving, half-depth servers and storage, including its new V Series line of virtualized servers, says the company.
Rackable Systems says the containerized system results in a data center that is both mobile and modular, achieving reductions in energy and facility costs by as much as 50%. ICE Cube can dramatically reduce deployment times, adds the company, enabling design to deployment of a fully functional, built-to- order data center in 90 days or less.
