October 25, 2005—Big & Tall Furniture has been recently launched by E. A. Blackard, of Tampa, Florida and Karen Hitchcock of Knoxville, Tennessee, who have a combined 50 years of experience in the traditional furniture industry, they say.
The new Web-based venture is offering office furniture to accommodate extra height, width or weight in the user. The company is offering products from a variety of manufacturers. The chairs are designed to be comfortable for the user weighing anywhere from 275 to 500 pounds. Big & Tall also offer chairs that meet bariatric standards for people weighing up to 750 pounds.
The company offers desks that are 33 inches tall—the standard height is 29 inches—to offer extra leg room for the end user.
The owners noted that there was a need for an accessible central location featuring a large variety of chairs and desks that would accommodate people who are out of the norm, size-wise.
