Sherwin-Williams introduces new line of protective coatings

November 10, 2004—Sherwin-Williams has produced several new products in recent months to enhance and protect interior and exterior surfaces. The new products include a reflective coating that helps insulate buildings, a stain for vertical concrete walls, a quick-dry primer, translucent metallic paint, an improved glaze, and two tough enamels.

E-Barrier
E-Barrier is a reflective coating that keeps buildings cooler in summer and warmer in winter, lowering utility costs and making buildings more comfortable. In summer, the microscopic metal particles in E-barrier applied to the underside of a roof deck reflect radiant energy or heat from the sun, keeping the building cooler. In winter, E-Barrier prevents radiant energy from leaving the building. E-Barrier has a low emissivity or e-rating, and can reduce heating and cooling costs by as much as 15%. E-Barrier is ready to use—no mixing required. It has minimal overspray, no dripping or running, and low odor.

Vertical Concrete Stain
Vertical Concrete Stain adds color and protection economically to large concrete structures, whether smooth or textured, including parking garages, stadium supports, bridge columns, and dot sound barriers. The stain offers color uniformity and resists color fading and efflorescence. It provides water repellency and early blister resistance with excellent adhesion on new and old concrete. The product dries fast enough to allow recoating in 15 minutes, and has minimal overspray with no running or sagging. It is available in a wide range of colors.

PrepRite Easy Sand Primer
PrepRite Easy Sand Primer is designed for interior wood surfaces. The primer dries quickly, allowing priming, sanding, and finishing in one day. It powders up with minimal effort and is compatible with multiple topcoats, making it easy to meet builder specifications. Spray application is recommended for best results.

illusions Copper and Pearl Metallics
Designed for application over a coordinating base color, these two new translucent metallics add a whole new dimension to plain painted walls. Their shimmering finish simulates a custom antique look. Both products are easy to use, and clean up is simple.

ProXP
ProXP is an eg-shel enamel for new commercial construction or renovations, formulated primarily for spray and backroll. It covers bare drywall in one less coat with no need for priming, therefore maximizing productivity. Uniformity, hold out and flashing problems are significantly reduced over conventional paint products, says Sherwin Williams, and one coat of ProXP is tougher than two coats of a traditional top-of-the-line eg-shel finish.

illusions New Glaze
Like the original glaze, this product is used for sponging, ragging, combing, and color washing. This reformulation allows more time to create great results and specialized effects. It is also now available in Twist & Pour gallon containers that are short-filled, making it convenient to mix in up to a quart of color right into the container.

ProMar 200 Low Sheen Enamel
ProMar 200 Low Sheen ES Enamel has a heavier feel and great wet hide. As a low sheen eg-shel, it is more durable than flat, with better scrubs and burnish resistance, masking drywall imperfections.
