February 13, 2002—Spacesaver Corporation has introduced a device that limits aisle access in its powered mobile storage systems. The control, called TouchPad, is compatible with the entry-level Power Assist mobile storage system as well as the more advanced PowerPro.
To gain aisle access, an authorized user enters a four-digit code on the 10-digit keypad that’s mounted on the end of the desired aisle. Upon leaving the aisle, the user closes the aisle with a “system close” button at the end of the module. The TouchPad aisle access control is ideal for organizations that store sensitive records and materials where access should be restricted, such as medical records, pharmaceuticals, financial records, personnel records, legal records, evidence and product design documentation. This new option will also help health-care providers meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy regulations.
Benefits of the TouchPad option include:
- Securing confidential and sensitive media from access by unauthorized persons.
- Code memory retention during a power interruption, which saves reprogramming as well as maintains controlled access when power resumes. Also insures that codes will not clear if someone turns the power off.
- Flexible programming that enables the user to program or reprogram each aisle as business needs or personnel change.
- No security threat with lost keys, as is typical with mechanical locks.
- TouchPad aisle access control can be retrofitted to most existing Power Assist and PowerPro, mobile systems currently in use.
Spacesaver powered mobile storage systems provide storage density by eliminating the space required for multiple stationary aisles. This increases storage capacity by as much as 100 percent over conventional storage systems.
