UK supermarket is testing wind-power for electricity

Sainsbury’s supermarket chain plans to use wind-generated electricity to power one of its key distribution depots in East Kilbride, near Glasgow. This is the UK’s first commercial, non-subsidized project of this type. Wind energy company Next Generation will install a 65-meter high turbine at the site to provide 25% to 40% of the power necessary for the 35,000sqm depot. Sainsbury’s goal in the project is to demonstrate the viability of wind power, and to spend less for electricity in the long run.
