October 1, 2004—The Viking Corporation, a manufacturer of fixed fire protection devices, continues to expand its line of storage sprinklers with the introduction of the K-17 Upright Sprinkler. This sprinkler, which has a K-factor of 16.8 (24,2 metric), is a standard response spray sprinkler for applications utilizing the area/density protection criteria provision in NFPA 13. It is designed to provide densities of .45 or greater (based on 100 square feet spacing) at lower pressures than smaller K-factor storage sprinklers.
The K-17 sprinkler was subjected to full-scale fire tests to qualify them for use in the protection of high-piled storage. It is also UL and cUL Listed for use in Light, Ordinary, or Extra-Hazard Occupancies for hydraulically calculated wet or dry systems per NFPA 13. And, it’s available in temperatures from 155F (68C) through 286F (141C).
