Weyerhaeuser’s Hudson Bay mill recognized for environmental management

February 14, 2003—Weyerhaeuser Company’s Hudson Bay mill has earned international recognition for its rigorous approach to environmental management. The facility is registered to the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard. Certification followed a thorough independent audit by NSF International Strategic Registrations Ltd.

Established by the International Organization for Standardization, headquartered in Switzerland, ISO 14001 registration recognizes organizations whose environmental management systems meet the comprehensive requirements of this internationally recognized standard.

In order to achieve ISO 14001 certification, Hudson Bay OSB developed and implemented a formal environmental management system. That system addresses both environmental regulatory compliance and internal processes aimed at reducing waste and preventing pollution.

The Hudson Bay mill is the 19th Weyerhaeuser manufacturing facility to earn ISO 14001 registration. In addition, more than 80 per cent of Weyerhaeuser’s forest lands are ISO 14001 registered, including the Pasquia Porcupine and Prince Albert Forest Management Areas in Saskatchewan.

The Hudson Bay mill employs approximately 200 people and produces oriented strand board (OSB). OSB is a construction panel made with layers of precision-manufactured wood “strands” that are aligned, formed into panels and pressed with an exterior grade adhesive resin.
