New York City-based office furniture dealership Total Office Solutions recently conducted a survey of 80 corporations, professional service firms, and small businesses about their attitudes concerning the now defeated OSHA ergonomic standards.
The vast majority of companies surveyed (93.5%) already consider their companies “ergonomic or very ergonomic.” In addition, most (82.5%) felt that ergonomics makes employees more productive and most (96.4%) believe that ergonomics has a positive impact on employee satisfaction.
According to the survey, two-thirds of the companies felt the OSHA regulations would be expensive to enforce. However, nearly a quarter of the companies reported ergonomic injuries in the past year echoing Democratic concerns to protect workers.
Although most companies were aware of the OSHA rules, according to the Total Office Solutions survey, they were clearly not prepared to implement them. Nearly half of the businesses surveyed were not aware that the OSHA standards had passed into law. More than half (55%) said they did not have the ergonomic training programs that OSHA would have required.
