April 28, 2003—Wyoming Gov. David Freudenthal recently signed legislation formalizing statewide adoption of the current editions of NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, and NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, for new and existing health care facilities. The adoptions become effective July 1, 2003. All of these codes are elements of the Comprehensive Consensus Codes (C3) set being developed by NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and other leading code developers.
In addition to the adoptions of NFPA 54, NFPA 58 and NFPA 101, the legislation stipulates that the requirements of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, will prevail in the event there is a code conflict in any provision of the other state codes.
These and all NFPA codes and standards are developed through a process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The C3 set is the first full, integrated set of codes and standards developed through ANSI-accredited processes.
The C3 set is being developed through a partnership involving NFPA, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
