Pepco Energy Services awarded $47M in contracts to supply power to U.S. Government

June 11, 2004—Pepco Energy Services, a provider of energy and energy-related services, has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Energy Support Center (DESC), to supply electricity to several government agencies in Maryland, including the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Navy Intelligence Command.

The 17-month contract calls for Pepco Energy Services to supply 107 megawatts of electricity, beginning this month. Awarded by DESC, the contract is valued at $34 million and will provide the government with electricity savings of $8 million.

Other agencies participating in the contract include the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Veterans Affairs Medical Center Health Care Systems and the Institute for Defense Analysis.

Recently, Pepco Energy Services was also awarded a contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply 75 megawatts of electricity to19 federal government entities located in Maryland.

These agencies include GSA, the Department of State, the Department of Justice, the Department of Energy, the Department of Treasury, the Smithsonian, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

This contract will provide these agencies with savings of over $2 million during the seven month term.
