May 12, 2003—The Village of Huntington Bay in Long Island, New York, whose mayor Herb Morrow encourages the use of alternative energy sources and looks for resourceful ways to reduce power usage and energy consumption, has installed IntelliCon energy saving controls in the Village facilities. Morrow calls the technology a “very practical solution for reducing energy consumption, improving building systems performance, and increasing worker comfort and productivity.”
Within one month of installation, the Village reduced fuel consumption by 14% and reduced on/off cycling (the amount of times the system automatically turns on and off) by 16%. Morrow, who directs the Village’s energy program, emphasized that this is a successful way to trim energy usage in both public buildings and residential dwellings, noting that the larger the municipality, the more significant the potential savings. The mayor plans to recommend its use for local private clubs, schools, the hospital, and municipal facilities.
