FACILITIES MANAGEMENT RESOURCES
SUSTAINABILITY

The Sustainability section on FMLink is presented by three of the leading organizations that promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Beginning in 2009, each month, a different organization is featured with an article that is written exclusively for FMLink. Contact information for each organization is in the Resources section.

The Ashkin Group specializes in greening the cleaning process and provides green consulting services for building owners, product manufacturers, distribu-tors and cleaning contractors, as well as advocates, environmen-talists and policy makers. The Ashkin Group is led by Stephen Ashkin, who has played a pivotal role in setting industry standards, promoting environmentally pre-ferable products and advocating socially responsible practices.

BuildingGreen is an independent publishing company committed to providing information designed to help building-industry profes-sionals and policy makers im-prove the environmental perfor-mance, and reduce the adverse impacts, of buildings. Its articles on FMLink focus on building op-eration and maintenance prac-tices that represent the best cur-rent thinking about responsible resource use and reduction in energy consumption.

Leonardo Academy is a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing sustainability and putting the competitive market to work on improving the environment. It is a Think and Do Tank that develops new methods, metrics and standards for environmental improvement, and it also helps businesses, organizations, and individuals implement sustainability measures and document their achievements. By working on both the thinking and the doing sides of addressing environmental issues, it is able to make implementing sustainability very practical.

The USGBC is a non-profit community of leaders working to advance buildings that are envi-ronmentally responsible, profita-ble and healthy places to live and work. Driving its mission to transform the built environment is the Council's LEED® (Leaders-ship in Energy and Environmen-tal Design) green building certif-fication system. LEED is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted bench-mark for the design, construction and operation of high perfor-mance green buildings.
