by Brianna Crandall — April 22, 2015—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sent out a special Earth Day edition of its GoGreen newsletter to highlight available resources and events as participants in over 190 countries celebrate Earth Day on April 22. The day, coordinated by the Earth Day Network, marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

EPA’s Earth Day Web page lists many opportunities to celebrate and engage, including environmental tips, blog posts, new videos, community service ideas, lesson plan ideas for teachers, local events and more. Resources are also available in Spanish.

EPA’s #EarthDayEveryDay blog gives practical actions people can take every day to help protect the environment and the climate, while keeping families healthy and saving money.

EPA’s Earth Day Events page highlights numerous celebratory events and volunteer service opportunities around the country.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will join LULAC and the Environmental Defense Fund to host an Earth Day Twitter chat at 3:30 pm ET on April 22, covering Latino health and how we “Act on Climate.”

For a global context, visit the official Earth Day site of the Earth Day Network (EDN), which coordinates the annual event, working with over 50,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, reportedly making it the largest civic observance in the world.

EDN works with partners around the world on a wide range of “environmental” issues, broadening the definition to include all issues that affect health, communities and the environment, such as greening deteriorated schools, creating green jobs and investment, and promoting activism to stop air and water pollution.
