USGBC declares China trade mission a success

May 18, 2005—The U.S. Green Building Council’s first-ever China trade mission proved highly successful, enabling its delegation members to cultivate valuable relationships and open new doors to business opportunities for sustainable design in China, says the council.

The USGBC’s China trade mission is a sign of China’s strong interest in sustainable design, thanks to the Ministry of Construction’s ambitious plan to reduce China’s energy consumption by 50 percent by 2010. As a result, there is tremendous market potential in China for green building products and services providers, the council notes.

From March 28 to April 2, 2005, the China trade mission visited both Shanghai and Beijing. Its 14-member delegation represented nine USGBC member companies: Advanced Building Performance, CALMAC Manufacturing, GBBN Architects, Honeywell International, Interface Engineering, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Sebesta Blomberg, York International, and Trane.

USGBC is now considering a return to China, and/or visiting other rapidly developing countries such as India and Brazil.
