Armstrong Industries Signs Multi-year Agreement with Intira

Corporation to develop a Netsourcing solution to support Armstrong’s expanding e-business initiatives. The Intira Netsourcing solution will run Armstrong’s customer portals, which Armstrong considers critical to the success of those initiatives. Armstrong chose Intira because of its focus on Netsourcing — the outsourcing of the integrated IT and networking infrastructure, technical resources, and value-added services required to run, monitor, and manage mission-critical e-business applications such as Armstrong’s customer portals with maximum uptime.

“In order to achieve our e-business goals and satisfy our worldwide customers’ growing appetite for information on our products and services, Armstrong needed a robust technology infrastructure to keep our e-business application up and running around the clock,” said Chuck Kereczman, Armstrong’s Information Technology Project Leader, E-Business. “That’s why we turned to outsourcing, and specifically to Netsourcing with Intira. We expect Intira’s comprehensive Netsourcing solution to give Armstrong a reliable platform that will provide consistently high levels of performance and availability for our e-business application, as well as scalability to support growth, both domestic and international.

Since launching its Web site in April 1999, Armstrong has experienced tremendous growth in visitor numbers, which currently average 5,500 per day, with an average stay of 16 minutes per session. Particularly popular is Armstrong’s “Room Viewer” feature, which allows consumers to preview Armstrong floor products within actual room settings on their computer screens. The growth in visitor traffic prompted Armstrong to upgrade the technology infrastructure to support its site by outsourcing to Intira in order to achieve the major goals of its expanded e-business initiatives. Those goals include an integrated, company-wide Internet platform that will provide a consistent look and feel across Armstrong’s vinyl and wood flooring and ceiling business units, while providing consistent product- branding messages and interactive experiences for Armstrong’s business and consumer end users worldwide.

Armstrong expects to have its U.S. site up and running with Intira by late August, 2000.
