ICC, ASTM publish consolidated guide for building code standards

November 14, 2003—A publication developed by the International Code Council (ICC) and ASTM International will save time and cut costs by consolidating into one volume many of the standards that architects, engineers, builders and code officials use regularly.

ICC and ASTM International partnered to produce a book that brings together all ASTM standards referenced in the 2003 International Building Code. Designed for code users, the 2003 International Building Code-ASTM Referenced Standards contains over 260 ASTM standards, or nearly 50 percent of all standards referenced in the 2003 International Building Code.

Building codes are a set of regulations adopted and enforced through local or state governments. Standards are the technical documents that specify quality and performance of construction products and materials. Codes often contain provisions that reference standards.

By significantly reducing the expense of acquiring referenced standards, ICC and ASTM International help building departments with tight budgets continue to provide the highest level of public safety.
