March 29, 2002—Kentucky Governor Paul E. Patton recently signed into law a new interior design title act, HB 207, making Kentucky the 23rd US jurisdiction to legally recognize interior design.
The law requires registrants to meet education and experience requirements set by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) and pass the NCIDQ exam. Registrants who wish to renew their certification will also be required to complete twelve hours of continuing education in the twelve-month period preceding the expiration date of their certificates.
The American Society of Interior Designers hailed the law, saying it “will raise the accountability and professionalism of interior designers and will directly benefit Kentucky consumers of design services.”
