NeoCon ’03: Teknion’s Contessa “new generation” office mesh chair incorporates advanced mechanisms

July 4, 2003—Teknion introduced Contessa during NeoCon and calls it the next generation office mesh chair. European-designed Contessa incorporates a unique mechanism that allows the chair to be raised, lowered, or to recline using conveniently located levers in the armrest. The “smart operation” concept enables the user to perform basic adjustments in a seated, natural position, and to customize the chair for various body types and sitting postures.

The Contessa series, designed by Giugiaro Design (noted also for its Alfa Romeo auto designs, among others), coordinates different frame colors, body colors, and seat types with numerous fabric colors. Chairs can be upholstered with mesh fabric seats and backs, or with mesh fabric backs and cushion seats. Black leather is also offered.

Contessa uses materials that have a low impact on the environment to help protect the world’s ecology. The chair’s modular design allows easy replacement of parts, while major resin components are discreetly identified to aid in end-of-life recycling or disposal. Contessa is 95% recyclable and GREENGARD Certified. According to Teknion president and CEO David Feldberg, Teknion has become the first office furniture manufacturer to receive GREENGUARD Certification for the major product lines that it manufacturers. Certification, he adds, is an important achievement in Teknion’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.

NeoCon is held each June at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.
