Trane CDQ desiccant system chosen as innovation of the year by Frost & Sullivan

March 27, 2006—Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting company, announced recently that it has named Trane, a global provider of indoor comfort systems and comprehensive facilities solutions, as the recipient of the 2006 Product Innovation of the Year Award in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) dehumidification systems for developing the high-efficiency Cool Dry Quiet (CDQ) desiccant dehumidification system.

Frost & Sullivan explains that CDQ is a breakthrough, energy-efficient humidity control solution for healthcare facilities, industrial locations, retailers, and grocery. Trane pioneered the development of a desiccant rotor utilizing a Type III desiccant. The advantage of the Trane CDQ wheel is that it uses return air, which is the lowest grade heat available, to regenerate the desiccant.

While alternative solutions such as the gas-fired units use new energy at 140-200 degrees Fahrenheit, Trane uses a desiccant that operates at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, Trane’s CDQ product performs with 20-25 percent more efficiency than others.

Currently available dehumidifiers can be fairly complex, including two or three fans, gas burners, and sensors; however, Trane’s design eliminates many of these items, stripping the system down to the wheel and offering special sensors developed to measure the humidity with long-term stability.

A CDQ system has a long life expectancy, is engineered to last for many years, and includes long-term customer support services and parts. This is a significant value addition in a market where few companies offer such an extensive and long-lasting post-sale service, adds Frost & Sullivan.

Frost & Sullivan presents its Product Innovation of the Year Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
